Since the most recent EMV update for ATMs, there have been several software upgrades to fix security issues relative to EMV.

There are many reasons to address these issues now. One is to offer the most secure transaction to your customer. Another is to avoid fallback transactions – where transaction “falls back” to mag stripe when EMV does not work. There are rumblings that networks may add fees for excessive fallback activity so this is something you will want to avoid.
